A basket-hilted sword of an officer of The Royal Scots, also known as The Royal Regiment, the oldest and most senior infantry regiment of the line in the British Army, first raised in 1633 during the reign of Charles I.
The sword bears the cypher of King George V, placing it to the early 20th century. The regiment saw extensive active service during both the First and Second World Wars, with multiple battalions engaged on the Western Front, in the Mediterranean, and in other theatres.
The blade is etched with the Egypt battle honour, earned during the Egyptian campaign of the 19th century.
