FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (Sellers)
Why should I sell with you?
- When selling with us, your items are published on the same platform as Bonhams, Sotheby’s, and Christie’s (the-saleroom.com), reaching the same global audience. Your items will be identified correctly, given market-aware estimates and buyers will be provided with competent condition reports and answers to their questions.
- We offer a fully transparent process with 0% seller commission. Unlike a traditional auction house, we also have no hidden fees—this means no listing fees, no minimum commission fees, no online fees, no insurance fees, and no collection fees.
- There are no surprises with us. We have a panel of experts whom we can contact if an item falls outside of our direct area of expertise. We pride ourselves on our research, so you can know that your items will not be undersold, misidentified or undervalued.
- As a specialist arms and armour auction house, we thoroughly vet every item to ensure authenticity and quality. This builds trust with our buyers, who are often willing to bid higher than they would at a general auction. We’re an established international dealer of antique arms and armour with a trusted network of collectors.
- Because we are very familiar with international customs regulations for antique weapons, we are the only auction house to offer in-house international shipping of arms. This is a huge advantage for buyers, who can avoid paying the extortionate fees charged by shipping companies.
- What inspired us to offer a blanket 0% commission rate for all sellers, private or trade, was seeing the high commissions that private sellers are often charged at traditional bricks & mortar auction houses (usually 15% + VAT), while dealers negotiate lower rates and safer reserves because of the volume they provide.
What's the catch?
There isn’t one. We are a small business working tirelessly to deliver digital auctions with no surprises.
What is the seller's commission?
Seller's commission is 0%.
Are there any hidden fees?
No! When the hammer falls at £1200, you get £1200.
I only have one or two items, is that okay?
Absolutely. We treat all our customers with the same attention and respect, regardless of whether you consign one item with us, or an entire collection.
How long will payments take to arrive?
As a rule, we will transfer you the funds within 48 hours of receipt. We ask our buyers to complete payment within 7 days. When you consign more than one item with us, we will normally wait until all sold lots are paid for before we send you the funds. However, we are happy to communicate, and can send a part settlement earlier if some of the buyers are taking too long.

How can I send my items to you? Will you collect?
We can receive items one of 3 ways:
1. You can talk to us at an arms fair where we sell, such as Kempton or Birmingham. View our Dates page for more information.
2. If you have a collection for sale or a larger number of items, we will travel at no extra cost to you and do a house visit.
3. You can send us the items by post. If you do not have experience posting arms and armour, we can walk you through it.
What should I expect my item to sell for? Can I set a reserve price?
We will discuss item estimates and reserves with you when you get in touch.
Where will the items be published? Where can I watch the auction?
The auction will be published on the-saleroom.com. The auction format will be a timed auction, and you can watch the bids in real time.
What sort of items do you sell?
We are a specialist auction selling antique arms and armour such as swords, daggers, and flintlocks. We also include militaria in our auctions, such as medals and uniforms.
What happens if some of my items do not sell?
If some of your items do not sell, we can either return them to you or keep them for the next auction.
Do you offer any additional services?
We offer free appraisals at any of the shows we trade at. You can also send us an email with photos of your items and we will identify and appraise with no obligation. For large collections, we are happy to travel and perform house visits at no extra cost to you.
We offer in-house international shipping services for antique weapons, which most auction houses do not do. This gives buyers peace of mind in the knowledge that they will not be taken advantage of by external shipping companies.
We can also advise on historically respectful restoration by experts we work with to maximize an item’s value. Our optional in-house services include light restoration and etching of Indo-Persian arms – something no other auction house offers. These restorations can significantly enhance an item’s appeal and even double or triple its value. After all, buyers purchase with their eyes. Furthermore, we will waive this charge if the item does not sell.
These are services that are unique to specialist sellers like us, and no other auction house will provide them.
Where are you based?
We are based in rural Pembrokeshire, South Wales. However, we only operate online or at trade shows.

How do I pay?
Once the auction is over, we will send you an invoice with our bank details, as well as a payment link where you can pay via credit or debit card.
How will I get my items? Do you offer international shipping?
We do all our shipping in-house, so you do not have to worry about being taken advantage of by auction logistics companies.
When we send your invoice, we will include an optional shipping quote to your registered address.
Alternatively, you can arrange your own collection by contacting us. You can also collect your items at any arms fairs we trade at, such as Kempton or Birmingham arms fairs.
Where can I collect / Where can I view an item?
Viewings and collections can be arranged strictly by appointment.
You can collect or view items at any arms show we trade at, such as Kempton or Birmingham arms fairs, but please contact us in advance so we can bring the lots.
I won an item but have changed my mind. Can I cancel my bid?
Bidding at auction is a legal contract to purchase an item. We cannot cancel the sale - this will make the lot unsold, as we are unable to get in contact with the underbidder.
Failure to pay for a purchased item leads to the freezing of your saleroom account, as well as your registration card being automatically charged. Even if you eventually settle, this leaves a mark on your account, and other auctioneers will not approve your registration. Please only bid if you are certain.
