The hilt is made from a beautiful translucent carved horn, with a green/yellow colour.

A shamshir sword, with a carved horn hilt and blue and gilt blade.

Ottoman shamshirs with import blades are common, but blue and gilt ones are unusual. This could be either Ottoman or European - mameluke style.

The blade is of very high quality, and remains solid from base to tip. It has a good, thick spine. 90% of the bluing remains visible. The sword enters the scabbard with a satisfying 'click'.

The hilt is made from a beautiful translucent carved horn, with a green/yellow colour.
