Scottish Infantry Officer's Cross Hilt Sword

Scottish Infantry Officer's Cross Hilt Sword

Origin: United Kingdom | Culture: Scottish | Period: 20th Century

Sold

A WW1 period Scottish infantry officer's sword fitted with the undress cross hilt and complete with its red tassel and original scabbard.

The blade etched with the GVR cypher.

Retailed by Hawkes & Co of 1 Saville Row, and with a proof disc that reads "Proved" and "R" in the middle, this would place it as a sword made by Charles Reeves & Co of 9 West St., Golden Sq, London, and retailed by Hawkes between 1914 and 1936.

The pommel and quillon finals indicate that this was carried by an officer for either the Seaforth, Cameron, or Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
