A shamshir sword, with a carved horn hilt and blue and gilt blade.
Ottoman shamshirs with import blades are common, but blue and gilt ones are unusual. Having conducted research among experts in Ottoman arms & armour, this is without a doubt an Ottoman shamshir, despite my initial suspicions it could be European.
The blade is of very high quality, and remains solid from base to tip. It has a good, thick spine. 90% of the bluing remains visible. The sword enters the scabbard with a satisfying 'click'.
The hilt is made from a beautiful translucent carved horn, with a green/yellow colour.
An unusual piece for the advanced collector.
