A Russian Empire Nicholas II curved ‘eastern type' Klych Cossack sword.
Eastern type sabres were approved by emperor Nicholas II for wearing by Cossack officers outside of formation. They were worn by officers of the Life Guards Cossack regiment, the Life Guards Ataman regiment, the Life Guards 6th Don Cossack Battery of the Guards Horse Artillery and the Ural Hundred of the Life Guards combined Cossack regiment.
This sword type was approved from 1909, and was called ‘klych'. The klych resembled 18th-century cossack sabres in their shape. The blades of the klychs varied in curvature, fullers and decorations.
