A rare 1821 style light cavalry trooper's sabre, produced by J.E. Bleckmann under contract to the British East India Company.

These were issued to troopers of the European Cavalry Regiment, newly formed to help supress the Indian Mutiny and made up of European planters and expats.

The sword is very similar to an 1821 pattern light cavalry officer's pipeback sabre, but differs with its folding section of the guard.

The large plain blade is in great condition, and carries the maker's mark of J. E. Bleckmann, and the Indian Government ownership stamp (the broad arrow over the letter I).
