Air Force Officer's Dagger, Kingdom of Romania

A dagger issued to an officer of the Royal Romanian Air Force during the Kingdom of Romania. Romania established one of the earliest military air services in Europe, with formal aviation units active by 1913.

The Royal Romanian Air Force remained small through the interwar period, and daggers of this type were produced in limited numbers. Their survival rate was further reduced during the communist era. From 1947 to 1989, and especially under Ceaușescu's dictatorship, possession of monarchist items would result in immediate imprisonment or forced labour. 

Few examples of this dagger remain today, and even fewer in this condition. This item is incomparably rare when compared to its Wehrmacht counterparts, and should be present in every serious collection of WW1 and WW2 memorabilia.
